SYNOPSIS

This popular Christmas-themed Parisian feel-good novel is the first installment in the Little Paris Collection series.

When American bookshop owner Sarah Smith is asked to temporarily exchange bookshops with her Parisian friend Sophie, she instantly agrees and is excited for the experience of a lifetime. Meanwhile, Sarah’s journalist boyfriend, Ridge, has been taking jobs all over the globe, causing strain on their relationship. When the demands of the new bookshop in Paris are much more difficult than she envisioned and her boyfriend’s constant absence becomes a major concern, Sarah becomes determined to make the shop profitable in time for Christmas and make the most of her new unexpected friendships.

REVIEW

The writing in this novel is quite simple and is filled with schmaltzy scenes and repetitive overanalysis by the protagonist. At the same time, it still manages to charm listeners with its picturesque depictions of the beautiful Parisian streets, sites, restaurants, and, of course, the enchanting bookshop where Sarah works.

Narrator Sally Scott delivers a very accurate portrayal of Sarah, radiantly bringing out the subtleties of a small-town American woman and her obvious naivety. If you’re looking for a feel-good Christmassy story and can overlook some very implausible character decision-making in exchange for an abundance of Parisian charm, give this book a listen.
