SYNOPSIS

Mia’s been ghosted. Her festive spirits are at an all-time low, but at least her Christmas can’t get any worse. Or so she thought, until she discovered that her ex, Sam, is spending Christmas with her family. Now she’s looking at a whole week with the man who broke her heart and no chance of escape.

John’s a ghost. After 30 years in limbo without a soul to talk to, he’s bored to death but still can’t seem to reach the afterlife. So when Mia screams at the sight of him, he can’t help but wonder why this lovelorn girl can see him. Could helping to ease her heartbreak be his ticket to passing on?

As John and Mia become friends, he’s desperate to work out how he can cheer her up. But then John sees the way that Sam and Mia look at each other and he knows how to convince her that love isn’t dead after all. She just needs a ghostly nudge in the right direction…

REVIEW

Ghosted at Christmas is a festive rom-com with a paranormal twist and popular romance tropes, including second-chance romance, forced proximity, & a grumpy/sunshine dynamic!

The story follows Mia, who heads home for the holidays after being ghosted by a guy, only to find that her ex, Sam, is staying with her family for the week. John, a ghost who’s been stuck on the family grounds for 30 years, finds Mia can see him & thinks helping her heal could be his ticket to the afterlife!

The strength of this book is its charming characters. Unfortunately, FMC Mia is frustratingly stubborn & insufferable at times. In her late 20s, she complains about Sam like an immature teen. Their relationship ended with an unfortunate event, & she regurgitates it over & over, reminding herself not to trust him. Ironically, Sam is very likeable—the kind of “golden retriever” love interest that readers will root for. But the heart of the story is John, the ghost. He’s witty & mischievous & helps shift Mia’s terrible outlook. Mia’s family members are all animated & quirky, creating a chaotic, festive family holiday vibe!

The pacing is brisk & easy—perfect for a weekend binge read. Although the main conflict drags on due to miscommunication, the ending offers closure & warmth, perfect for a Christmas romance!
Narrator Performance

Imogen Church narrates the audiobook using her trademark character voices to make each character come alive! Her performance of Mia is dynamic—lively & sarcastic in dialogue, over-the-top dramatic in her inner thoughts, & softer/more vulnerable in quieter moments! She gives Sam a more restrained voice with a gentle hesitation that conveys his guarded nature. In contrast, John (ghost) is given an intelligent-sounding voice with playful timing that highlights his humour. Church’s dialogue delivery feels effortless & makes every exchange engaging & easy to follow!
